Here’s a little tidbit about the American population that you have probably never considered. We live without sleep, and we are proud of it. No, think about it for a minute. People rarely brag about all the sleep they are getting, but rather how busy they are, and how they have had to make do without it.
A portion of this comes from the American standard to be a productive member of society. A sign of youth is the ability to work through your sleeplessness, and get a lot done throughout the day. When is about the only time it is okay to admit that you take naps? When you are old and gray, and theoretically no longer a productive member.
Well, this is poppycock! In fact, you can’t be productive or youthful without sleep, as sleep is the one thing that not only maintains your health and energy, but it also improves your concentration so that you can get things done. Here are a few facts about all the sleep you are probably missing out on.
And while it has been said that you should reduce the number of electronics in your bedroom for a better nights sleep; if you can’t do it, there are apps that can actually improve your sleep if used properly. When I say use properly, I am talking about not reading e-mails in bed, googling, or texting friends, but rather turning on these sleep aids to increase your inner peace, and realization that there is nothing more important at that moment than allowing your body to rest.
